So, a few days ago, a friend of the studio called up and asked if I would help him out with a project.  As he described the project, I grew more and more interested. The project is called "Sacred Sounds: Cathedrals of Europe" The gist of it, is that a group of researchers are going to be travelling around Europe studying th...

Soon after I began recording audio, I had a feeling I would be in the pursuit of an unattainable goal.  Finding that "perfect" recording space, or even creating that "perfect" recording would be difficult, if not entirely impossible. 10 years after I began, I was able to pour my heart and soul into a new recording space, ...

A week ago, an acquaintance of mine from my highschool days, Matt Harker, was hit and killed while biking to work.  A day later, a friend contacted me and wondered if he could use the studio to produce a song in Matt's memory.  Although I didn't know Matt very well, I knew him well enough to know he was the type of person who did his best...

Today, I woke up at 6:00am, after getting a maximum of 4 hours of sleep (and it would only be 4 hours if I wasn't woken up in the middle of the night multiple times, which I was, so it was actually less) I prayed before I went to bed that I would be able to survive the day and get everything done that needed doing. Anyway, I woke up at 6,...

So...  Today was... beyond words, really. It was a day that just brimmed with spiritual opulence.  I woke up at 7:00, to warm up my voice (after having a pretty intense drumming session which lasted until midnight yesterday), and then went to practice the musical number at 8:00am, to sing it for the congregation at around 9:45. ...

So...  I thought I'd be going to bed, but here I am. When the Spirit directed me to come down and write down my testimony, I wasn't (and still am not) quite sure what to write.  This certainly isn't due to a lack of testimony comparative to other times I've done this, but rather quite the exact opposite.  It is because my tes...

So, I noticed I haven't blogged about studio things lately, and I need to get with it. With that, let me just say this: Yeah...  See that picture there?   One of those babies are now in use at Art City Sound, and although it's a bit preliminary right now, as I've only had it 1 day, I can with certainty say, "The drums from ...

Just in case you haven't heard the latest about Tiny Boats' debut album release, a good friend of the studio, Matt Mylroie, a music producer in Florida, had these good words to say about The Broken Vessels. A portion is quoted below, where the full review can be found here. "This album is hard to describe, but it is a fantastic blend of ...

"How have you been changed by knowing the Godhead?" To be honest, I don't think I would recognize myself without the relationship I have with God, through prayer, with Christ through his atonement, and with the Holy Ghost's comfort and guidance. Knowing the Godhead,to me, means that I have an incredible force behind my righteous choic...

Being an audio engineer full-time gives me the opportunity to meet a lot of musicians, and go through a lot of music.  Most of the music being recorded here is done by people who want to get a recording of a song or two that they want to post for their friends on social media sites, and that is great by me.  The more good music out for pe...

Okay...  So lately the studio has been getting some serious upgrades, thanks to all of you who have been supporting me, and creating awesome music. About a month ago, I was chatting it up with a good friend, Jesse Crowley, about how in the world we were going to sell our fabulous new Herod the Fink album this season.  You see, there ar...

Last Friday, we had the awesome opportunity to meet a fairly incredible group of girls.  They call themselves The Blue Aces, and after having listened to them strum a few chords, I'd say they've earned their title. Their manager contacted me after hearing a few samples from Advanced Budget Studios, and was interested in getting a pilot song...

I've been reading a few books and websites lately on the "geography of the Book of Mormon", and see that it is quite a contentious point for many people!  A desire to understand the BOM geography was the specific thing that got me into reading the Boook of Mormon for the first time on my own.  That isn't to say that my testimony...

~I just feel so much in my heart right now. Words truly cannot express how full my heart is. I just finished watching the movie "A Far Off Place". It has always been one of my favorites since I was a little girl. The music in it has always stirred deep emotions within me. It is just gorgeous. It has a melody that tugs at my heart. I ...

"What is a motorcycle doing in *this*?", I thought as I continued upward through the winding Spanish Fork canyon.   It wasn't so much that a motorcycle was in this particular canyon, but rather in the canyon during one of the 3 most torrential downpours I've seen during my lifetime. I was coming home from work today when about ...

Since I don't blog very much I thought I would add just a whole bunch of fun pictures of the kids with the latest things that have been going on.  So enjoy! Above: This is the best Mother's Day picture we could get.  The sun was shining right in the kids eyes.   Luci on her Zoo field trip.  This was my group. ...

So, I just got off the phone with my wife, and she was at our new home-to-be this evening, and apparently, almost everything is done.  The carpet isn't in, nor are the toilets, nor are the cement stairs leading down to the basement, but everything else - yeah - it's done.  I'm just beside myself.  We could be moving in as early as la...

So, I recently went to a Walk Off The Earth concert, and it was awesome.  Their concerts just keep getting better and better.  As good as it was, that's not the purpose for this entry.  The purpose is a guy named Scott Helman, and a thought he provoked. Scott Helman performed for 30 minutes before WOTE came on stage.  He...

Ya know...  I thought that with 4.5 hours of sleep last night, I'd feel a heckuva lot sleepier than I do.  I guess miracles do happen. Since our wonderful Samuel was born, my wife and I have been getting considerably less sleep than we otherwise would.  This is to be expected; it comes with the whole package of parenthood. I ha...

Last weekend I went to Arizona to see my brother Greg, my sister Andi, and my friend Natalie compete in the Ironman Event. I put together a video which pretty much sums it all up.  I hope you like it....

I was reading this article a few minutes ago, and a conversation I had with a potential employer popped into my head. It was an interview for a Microsoft ASP programmer I responded to about 3 years ago.  They wanted a senior web engineer, and I responded with my PHP credentials, and for some reason, that led to an interview. The intervie...

Okay...  So I own and operate a recording studio, and I've been using an M-Audio delta 1010 as my primary audio interface.  This provides me 8 channels of simultaneous audio streams coming into my workstation.  Up until about a month ago, this has been very sufficient. About a month ago, I ordered another Delta 1010, and planned o...

Well... I finally did it.  I've been kind of anxious about the whole "modifying my car" because I've never done it before, and my car is still under warranty.  I have no idea what this might mean for the warranty, but after hearing / feeling the difference, I don't regret it one bit.  I love it! Just two modifications fo...

I've recently become interested in integrating video into my journal and blog.  As such, I realized that my 4-year old digial camera just wasn't gonna cut it anymore, so I went out and bought the cheapest camera I could find that would shoot 30 frames per second which happened to be the Nikon S210 digital camera.  It takes pretty good vid...

Okay... I just got back from an absolutely wonderful place.  This place is called: Jump On It and it's seriously a wonderful place. My wife is addicted to this game called "Bunko" which she plays once a month with about 12 other women, so I get to play "Let's Go Babysit!" for 2-3 hours while she plays Bunko. Any...

Okay...  So about a month ago, I sat down at my keyboard and plunked out a few notes.  About 2 weeks later, I gave a rough copy of a mash of music to my friend, Ryan Phillips, and had plunked out some sweet riffs to it. Two weeks later, I add some vocals and effects, and this is what you've got. I hope you like it.  (press the ...

You know you've got a great project when its name is "Herod Fink", and it's Christmas-themed with an alternative flavor.  Yeah...  I'm really enjoying life right now. Anyway, so far, this project has been a whirlwind, but one we definitely cannot get enough of.  we couldn't stand it anymore, so we posted a little diddy f...

At the beginning of this year, one of the things I wanted to accomplish by next year was to write enough songs to create an album.  So far I have 3 songs I reallly like, and one which I think should be destroyed by fire.  Not too shabby, considering it's only the beginning of February. When I was 26, 1 day after I had broken up with my...

Earlier today I wrote about my experience trying to get a Logitech Orbit AF webcam installed in Gentoo Linux. About 2 hours later, I finally got Skype 2.0 beta to work (after figuring out a problem with QT), and upon loading it, configuring it, and finding someone with whom to test it (thanks, mindjuju), I finally got a webcam to act as a streami...

I just got back from one of the best races I've been on.  It was awesome. I've only got a bit to write about it, so I'll write as much as I can. I took off around 10:20 tonight to see what kind of damage I could do out on the streets. I was cruising on state street in Orem when I found a Dodge Charger R/T who wanted to play.  The...
