2 monitor radeon xorg.conf
PoeticIntensity
So, I spent a few minutes today seeing how bare-bones I could get my xorg.conf. My configuration is 2 23-inch Acer monitors, which are side-by-side using a Radeon HD4850 video card. I'm using gentoo.
make.conf : VIDEO_CARDS="radeon".
Also, I've got one big desktop from the 2 monitors. Here's the config.

gentoo mp3 tag editor
PoeticIntensity
I just spent 20 minutes trying to find a good console-based mp3 tag editor in gentoo, and was surprisingly fruitless in doing so.
After using the wonderful "equery belongs" command tied to an editor I use on my server (but couldn't remember where it came from), the program mp3blaster came up.
Although mp3blaster claims to just be an m...

Destroying an LVM Array
PoeticIntensity
Alright... So one of my hard drives failed in my backup server LVM array, and I received the new replacement disk today.
So, I turn on my computer and even though the volume group isn't initialized (due to the missing disk), it still exists, and has all the other drives in the array still held captive.
So, this is how to completely destroy your...

Gentoo XFCE4 / XDM / TWM Problems
PoeticIntensity
Okay... So with the latest update to xorg-server (I think it was 6.5), xdm stopped loading XFCE4 and I couldn't get it to load anything but TWM.
Here was the problem:
Somehow, an important file got removed. The file is this one:
/etc/env.d/90xsession
The contents of the file is simply:
XSESSION="Xfce4"
With that...

Fedora 12 - Getting Closer
PoeticIntensity
Well... I'm not quite as frustrated tonight as I was when I tried to do with Ubuntu, that which I am now trying with Fedora 12.
I installed Fedora 12 on my laptop from the install DVD, and I've gotta say, Fedora, neither in the installation, nor in running the OS, was as slick as Ubuntu. Ubuntu was quite a bit more polished, I'...

Ubuntu Still Has Demons
PoeticIntensity
Okay.. So I installed Ubuntu on my brother's computer about 3 weeks ago, and he has been loving it! Before that, he had been using gentoo with me as his personal admin, which I didn't mind because he rarely needed it, and when he did, it was usually a 10-30 minute fix, no problem.
So, he liked it so much, and from what I could tell, ...

I'm not entirely sure how to begin this post, but I'm just sitting here kind of wagging my head back and forth in disbelief. I hope this is at least exaggerating.
With everyone blathering on about how wonderful Windows 7 is, Microsoft hasn't changed a bit.
Before I begin, let me just say how wonderfully reassuring it is to be using Linux ...
