The END of Vacations! (LOTOJA)
PoeticIntensity
I'm so glad that the vacations for the Jones family for 2007 are OVER!
Holy cow, I'm quite done with driving in a car with two kids who love screaming. Anyway...
Yesterday, we woke up, got some quick breakfast, and then got in the car to head out to see 3 people take on the LOTOJA bike race (I assume LOTOJA means "LOgan TO JAckson&...

One LONG Day
PoeticIntensity
Wow.... The last time I woke up (apart from a nap I took today) was Thursday morning, and HOLY COW, craziness has happened.
The whole mohawk thing, which I thought was over, escalated to a point where it pretty much boiled over causing Kim to attack my and Sarah's parenting skills, and for them to leave in a rush without allowing Julia to ...

I'm Glad I'm Not Crazy.
PoeticIntensity
Okay... I've got to start off here on a postive note, or I'll bring up all sorts of crappy emotions which I'd just rather not get into right now. I'm sure they'll be brought up sooner or later, but for now, I'd like for you to just take a moment and sup in the absolute goodness found in the photograph on your right.
Yeah... Just ...

2007 Monterey Trip - Day 6
PoeticIntensity
Okay... It had to happen, and it happened today. Since this is a public entry, and I really don't want to throw a negative light on the situation, I'll do my best to filter out my emotions. If I have to vomit emotions, I'll do it in private. Anyway...
This morning, I woke up and Kim (my dear mother-in-law) decided to make ...

Old Fisherman's Grotto
PoeticIntensity
We just got back from a wonderful dinner at The Old Fisherman's Grotto on Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey California.
The halibut was quite wonderful, but not nearly as good as the side-dish of clam chowder I got. It really was fantastic.
If you're ever in Monterey, CA, you simply have to get a bowl of that chowder. It's quite amazing....

2007 Monterey Trip - Day 5
PoeticIntensity
Today's not over, but while the kids are taking naps, I thought I'd see what I could do to write about this day so far.
First off - I *love* Monterey. Last night, I don't think I got a whole lot of sleep, but notwithstanding that, I still woke up in an incredibly good mood due to the crisp salty air, the perfect temperature (around 60-68 deg...

Why I Love Monterey
PoeticIntensity
Okay.... Yes.. Collin knows he's cool. Actually, he's just happy to be on his way to Monterey to enjoy the various wonderful goings-on there.
Anyway... I thought I'd list the reasons I love Monterey while I'm waiting for everyone to get ready for the day. So... Here goes:
By far the best reason to come to Monterey Califo...

Clam Chowder Heaven
PoeticIntensity
I'm not entirely sure about the east coast or any other coast, but the clam chowder from the west coast at the Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey California is .... is.... well... it's clam chowder the way it was meant to be.
Today was a day full of driving in rush-hour-esque conditions, getting the hotel arranged at Monterey, CA.

Gentoo XFCE4 / XDM / TWM Problems
PoeticIntensity
Okay... So with the latest update to xorg-server (I think it was 6.5), xdm stopped loading XFCE4 and I couldn't get it to load anything but TWM.
Here was the problem:
Somehow, an important file got removed. The file is this one:
/etc/env.d/90xsession
The contents of the file is simply:
XSESSION="Xfce4"

Elder Holland's Talk
PoeticIntensity
This morning I came to work rather ponderous, but not pondering anything in particular. I so enjoyed Elder Holland's talk this last Sunday that I went and downloaded it, watched it, and did about 4 hours of research into the Nicene Creed, which Elder Holland mentioned.
First, I must say, hearing Elder Holland's talk was... uhhh.... a...

PoeticIntensity
I was wandering around the net to shake off the daily grind, when I came upon this site .
The poem made me think, and thinking is a pretty good thing. So, in response to his poem, I wrote the poem "To Write". I was suprised at how fast it came, and pretty freely, too. Anyway...
It's always a treat to find good poetry....

OpenFire gentoo problems
PoeticIntensity
I just spent the last three hours trying to figure out why my OpenFire 3.5.2 instance was installing just fine, saying that it was running just fine, but in reality was not running at all.
Neither port 9090, nor 9091 was open, both ports 9090, and 9091 were closed. ps -A | grep openfire returned nothing - at all.
Yet, /etc/init.d/openfire sta...

Life as Usual
PoeticIntensity
Beyond yesterday's post, I haven't posted anything in awhile. I guess it's because nothing really interesting has happened lately.
My kids are growing like weeds, and I try to enjoy them when want to, and I'm trying to want to more often. That's kind of a sad statement, but I don't believe I am a "born-to-parent" type of guy...

Moment of Truth??
PoeticIntensity
Last night, I watched a recording of American Idol, and since I have the myth system set to record 10 minutes previous to the beginning of the show, I had recorded the last 10 minutes of a show called "Moment Of Truth".
The whole premise of this show is to take a polygraph (lie-detector) test previous to the show, and then go on live TV...

Heaven Has Come....
PoeticIntensity
And in a sense, that's true!
Yes, folks... Another addition to the illustrious Jones family has arrived here on earth just in time to watch his dad go a little more insane. If we were talking about anything other than the bunch of lunatics running around this house, that might just seem a little alarming, but we're not.
So it isn't. :)

AnythingSlider is Awesome
PoeticIntensity
So, when I started the re-design of my studio website, I knew I would need sliders, but I didn't realize how many unconfigurable, and generally static sliders were out there. I must have gone through 5 iterations of sliders before I found one that matches my needs (and probably will be the go-to slider for any project I work on in the future)...

So, it's been awhile since I last wrote about the scriptures, but the fight to the end continues! I'm in Las Vegas right now for a conference, and what better way to start my day in sin city than to read the holy words of God?

So, on last chapter's post, someone left a wonderful comment. Thank you, whoever you are. That is precisely why I do this.

I was just up holding you, Collin. You awoke for some reason after we put you to bed, and I decided to be the one to go see what was the matter.

You put your little head on my shoulder and continued to rid...

Another very short one. If I understand it correctly, the prayer states that by partaking of the water, we are covenanting (or "witnessing") unto God that we will always remember Christ. Surprisingly... I'm not sure if it's because of my attitude or what, but I believe I got a bit more out of this chapter than I have for the rest of the Isaiah stuff.

I also believe that when it s...

So, before I even begin reading this chapter, I've gotta say that this is one of those chapters which is seriously deep in doctrine. I could probably spend the better portion of 2 or 3 days studying this one. That said, I don't have much time to spend now, so I'll get as far as I can.

I think these chapters are too short. Interesting to note that the scripture says that the elder or priest would "kneel down with the church", yet the congregation doesn't kneel down today.
Also interesting to note that the sacrament prayer is one of very few prayers which have to be said verbatim, and hasn't changed at all ...
